Foyer Night Resource Program 2011-2012

Opening December 14,2011

Foyer of Philadelphia is embarking upon its most substantial program, to provide night services for homeless L.G.B.T.Q youth in the city of Philadelphia during the winter months of 2011-2012 for L.G.B.T.Q young adults ages 18 to 24 at Arch Street Presbyterian Church. 

The Foyer night program will operate Sunday through Saturday from 7:00pm to 7:00am the next morning.  

Foyer of Philadelphia will serve a minimum of 30 youth during the three months of the program.

During the time a participant spends in the Foyer night resource program, he/she will receive the following services: food, group therapy, individual case management, and begin working on a strategic exit plan upon leaving the program.

Q-Spot, 2011

Foyer of Philadelphia is a part of a consortium of non profits in the city of Philadelphia who have come together to provide on Saturday night from 8:00pm-1:00am programming  for LGBTQ youth in the City of Philadelphia at Broad Street Ministry.

Youth that participate in this program receive assistance with HIV and AIDS testing and prevention, housing referrals, food subsidies and counseling.  This initiative is a pilot program and will operate the months of May 2011- August 2011.  

Foyer of Philadelphia is collecting needed data on the rate of homelessness among LGBTQ youth, to shape future programs.

 

Career Development Class, 2009

This was a 6-week class + 6-week internship with partnering companies.  The developed a soft skills such as, resume writing, interviewing skills, problem-solving, communication, guest speakers, money management and budgeting. 

The Career Development class met twice a week for 2 hours at the Attic Youth Center.

Internships:

Upon completion of the career development class students were placed in internships with local businesses and non profits which included:
  • CHOICE,
  • Mazzoni Center,
  • ActionAIDS,
  • Hinge Cafe,
  • Frog Commissary,
  • PhillyCarShare,
  • Society Hill Veterinary,
  • Studio 34,
  • Safe Guards,
  • The Rotunda

Outcomes:

16 LGBTQ youth started the program, 13 graduated from the class and 10 completed their internships.
